Lloyd Lindsay Young Before New Jersey had “Snooki” or Tony Soprano it had Lloyd Lindsay Young, with WWOR Channel 9’s studio in Secaucus. Young wasn’t just a television weather forecaster, he was a pop culture phenomenon. His "trademarks" remain a booming voice and boisterous delivery to include a loud “Helloooooooooo, Your Town!” in his report. Considered by many as the best weatherman ever, if you saw Lloyd once, belting his signature intro “Hellooooo!” and a yell of “Science!” before showing the radar, you would not forget the moment. As for his famed opening, Young says it was created by accident. “One night in Idaho Falls, my first television job, I just blurted it out.” Young says. “I was curious if anybody up in Wyoming was watching, so I yelled, ‘Hellooooo, Jackson, Wyoming!’” After getting a lot of favorable reaction from viewers, Young thought that he “might have something here.” The boisterous Young tried it again the next night using a different town—and the rest is history. “I like to have fun with the weather. It wasn’t a serious delivery; it was my shtick.” Lloyd says. “Weather offered levity in a newscast because a lot of the news is depressing by nature.” However, when a storm was brewing or changing drastically Young turned serious; reporting outside in blizzards at 20 below wind chill factor.” At the height of his popularity Double L amassed an enormous collection of weather pointers used during his television reports. Viewers sent in thousands of objects including plastic alligators, a launching rocket, a mannequin leg (complete with stiletto), and petrified animal body parts. After television, Young transitioned to radio weather in California. He maintains the same style on radio that made him famous on TV, including his over-the-top “Helloooooo!” unless the weather gets too serious for that personality. Young has combined his Broadcasting degree with his love of weather. “I am not a serious meteorologist. But on the other hand, I know a lot about the weather, because I’m obsessed with it.” .

Tom Harris-Exectutive Director- International Climate Science Colaition Since early 2008 Tom Harris has been Executive Director of the science-based, non-partisan group, theInternational Climate Science Coalition (ICSC). From 2006 to 2008, Tom was Executive Director of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project (Canada). Tom’s basic education was in thermo-fluids and energy sciences and he has Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Harris has 30 years experience as a mechanical engineer/project manager, science and technology communications professional, technical trainer and S&T advisor to a former Opposition Senior Environment Critic in Canada’s Parliament. For the past 12 years he has been working with a growing team of leading scientists and engineers to promote a sensible approach to range of energy and environmental topics, climate change in particular. His main focus has been the highly controversial science underlying these issues. Here (and below) is a short video excerpt from one of his many public presentations. Mr. Harris is regularly published in newspapers in Canada and the U.S. and occasionally in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and other countries. He is often interviewed on radio and occasionally TV. Besides the above TV interview sample, here are some other recent media hits: October 11, 2011: "Global warming, global worries" by Tom Harris, Winnipeg Free Press, Manitoba, Canada. October 6, 2011: "Kill carbon dioxide regulations - Harper still rolling out rules that will waste billions", by Tom Harris, published in the Financial Post, National Post, Canada. October 5, 2011: Listen to Tom's radio interview about the testimony of Minister Kent to the October 4, 2001 Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources hearing on "The Tommy Schnurmacher Show", CJAD 800 Radio, Montreal, Canada. September 16, 2011: Read New York Times coverage of Al Gore's "24 Hours of Reality" event in which the views of both Mr. Gore and Tom Harris are cited. September 13, 2011: "Gore's 24 Hours of Fantasy About To Begin - An effort to "expose" climate change skeptics will instead show that Gore is a charlatan", by Tom Harris, published by Pajamas Media, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. September 6, 2011: Watch "Enviro Watch", seven minute interview with Tom Harris on Ezra Levant's program The Source on Sun Media TV. Tom described the significance of the CERN "Cloud" experimental results. From 2009 to 2011 (four sessions), he taught a total of 1,500 students "Climate Change: an Earth Sciences Perspective", a second year course in the Faculty of Sciences at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Tom speaks about the approach he has taken with this course and ICSC in general here. An excerpt from a lecture in 2011 may be viewed here. We often hear that the science of climate change is “settled” and that “now is the time for action” to arrest this growing threat to civilization. Nothing could be further from the truth. Climate science is in a period of negative discovery in that the more we learn, the more we realize how little we actually understand about the forces that shape climate. We cannot as yet even detect a human signal on top of natural variability, let alone determine if action of any kind is needed aside from preparing for and adapting to climate change and continuing research into this complex field of science. Tom reveals the intense debate now raging among researchers concerning the causes of climate change. Besides briefly describing the hypothesis that 20th century warming was driven mostly by humanity's greenhouse gas emissions, Tom explains other factors that now appear to have a greater influence on climate. These include, but are not limited to: changes in the output of the sun ocean oscillations land use change galactic cosmic ray variations and consequent cloud cover changes.

Aircraft Carriers. For seventy years, these ships remained a little understood cornerstone of American power. In his latest book, On Wave and Wing , Barrett Tillman sheds light on the history of these floating leviathans and offers a nuanced analysis of the largest man-made vessel in the history of the world. Review “Even in today’s virtual, cyber world there is still nothing like being able to impose 100,000 tons of sovereign territory, unbridled and with the bit in the teeth, within a potential enemy’s scheme of maneuver. Read on then and learn. Barrett Tillman captures it all through his years of research and myriad interviews with those who have been there and seen the elephant, so prepare to take in all lines and get underway with the best maritime–aviation storyteller of them all.” —Captain Todd Zecchin, USN (Ret), final commanding officer of USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) “On Wave and Wing is a superlative account of the development of aircraft carriers of all nations and the people who man them, from Eugene Ely’s historic first launch from a ship in 1910 to the present. Author Barrett Tillman, a consummate authority on naval aviation, highlights his narrative with accounts from aviators and sailors who have ‘been there and done that’ for a century. On Wave and Wing describes ‘flattops’ as indispensable assets in America’s defense posture, and is so well written it’s like a novel you can’t put down. Strongly recommended.” —Captain Rosario Rausa, USN (Ret), editor, Wings of Gold

Rod PyleAmazing Stories of the Space Age: True Tales of Nazis in Orbit, Soldiers on the Moon, Orphaned Martian Robots, and Other Fascinating Accounts from the Annals of Spaceflight Award-winning science writer and documentarian Rod Pyle presents an insider's perspective on the most unusual and bizarre space missions ever devised inside and outside of NASA. The incredible projects described here were not merely flights of fancy dreamed up by space enthusiasts, but actual missions planned by leading aeronautical engineers. Some were designed but not built; others were built but not flown; and a few were flown to failure but little reported: A giant rocket that would use atomic bombs as propulsion (never mind the fallout), military bases on the moon that could target enemies on earth with nuclear weapons, a scheme to spray-paint the lenses of Soviet spy satellites in space, the rushed Soyuz 1 spacecraft that ended with the death of its pilot, the near-disaster of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the mysterious Russian space shuttle that flew only once and was then scrapped--these are just some of the unbelievable tales that Pyle has found in once top-secret documents as well as accounts that were simply lost for many decades. These stories, complimented by many rarely-seen photos and illustrations, tell of a time when nothing was too off-the-wall to be taken seriously, and the race to the moon and the threat from the Soviet Union trumped all other considerations. Readers will be fascinated, amused, and sometimes chilled.

Rock Legend/ Ricky Phillips-STYX-Harmony. Chemistry. Balance. Grit. Dexterity. Determination. Solidarity. Terms that describe a Super Bowl champion? Well, almost. These are words that define the core essence of Styx, the multimegamillion-selling rock band that has forged an indelible legacy both on record and onstage. The six men comprising Styx have committed to rocking the Paradise together with audiences far and wide by entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year, and each one of them is committed to making the next show better than the last. “Every night, we go on that magic carpet ride together,” observes original bassist Chuck Panozzo, who joins the band on tour as often as he can. “The thing I always like the most is the immediate response we get when playing live,” adds guitarist and vocalist James “JY” Young, an integral force of nature in the band since its 1972 inception and the one who helped steer the band to landing its first recording contract with Wooden Nickel Records. “And this is as good a live band as there is. Someone once told me, ‘I’ve seen Paul McCartney, I’ve seen the Rolling Stones, I’ve seen U2, I’ve seen the Police. But my favorite show last year was Styx.’ I like to say we’re the best-kept secret — but perhaps we’re not anymore.” Notes guitarist, vocalist, and emotional centerpiece Tommy Shaw, “There are so many portals to reach your musical soul, and our live show is like a religious experience where people come to commune and testify. We have a pretty sophisticated audience, and we really respect that. We didn't used to have people who would come see every show, but now they’re coming back again and again for more. And we owe it to our fans to continually rehearse, prepare, and improve.” Among the key reasons fans repeatedly return to bask in the live Styx experience is the special energy apparent in each performance. “Something feels fresh with these guys every time I walk out onstage with them,” admits vocalist and keyboard shaman Lawrence Gowan. “It’s not lost on anyone that we’re pretty fortunate to be doing this. I look across the stage and I’m as entertained as much as the audience is as to how strong the band is. There’s not the slightest sliver of doubt that we’re all going to leave everything we can onstage every night.” Agrees drummer and percussive dynamo Todd Sucherman, “This is a band that never has a bad show. I think our level of professionalism, musicianship, and spirit carries that across every night. The fact that we have so much fun when we’re playing — that’s very contagious. That’s a miraculous feat in and of itself. We never walk off the stage thinking, ‘What happened?’ ” A Styx show’s depth of impact is no accident, explains Ricky Phillips, bassist, background vocalist, and backbone of the backline: “There's a lot going on up there. It's a multilayered, multilevel show with a number of elements going on beyond the music itself. I find a symmetry with the give and take and all of the different emotions we touch upon. As many people as I’ve had the privilege to play with, I've never had the pleasure of being part of a situation like this one.” And that’s the crux of the unique rock and roll feeling Styx shares with its fans show in and show out.

Jack MillardFilm Producer/Director Little Boats Of Hope The journey of the "Little Boats Of Hope" film began when my client's wife was battling Stage IV breast cancer and then was tragically killed by a drunk driver in Los Angeles on December 31, 2012. Jack's late wife, Hilary Six, was also a producer in Los Angeles. To stay sane and sober, Jack Millard dealt with his grief in a most profound and positive way by throwing himself into his art and creating "Little Boats Of Hope" hand carved from pods of mesquite trees, attaching a feather and a message in a bottle "Don't Lose Hope" into each little boat. Jack began releasing the boats into the Pacific Ocean (Leo Carillo Beach), the 9/11 Memorial, a foundation in Paris, France... and most recently at Bethesda Foundation in Manhattan's Central Park. People are profoundly moved when they discover the boats, as everyone needs a little hope. Please watch this new short film. Jack Millard is in the film, and this is the third short he has created around the "Little Boats". The film is quite moving

Militant Muslims believe that Islam is on the brink of doing it again. The Muhammad Code: How a Desert Prophet Brought You ISIS, al Qaeda, and Boko Haramlays bare the origins of this profoundly dangerous belief. Many contemporary thinkers excuse Islamic violence as a legitimate reaction to Western imperialism. They blame America's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the establishment of Israel in 1948. But Jihad was invented in 624 AD by the only prophet ever to call himself "The Prophet of War." And that prophet was not responding to "legitimate grievances," but an ambition for world conquest.

Rich Little, Legendary ImpressionistRICH LITTLE is THE master mimic of more than 200 voices. With an impressive touring schedule throughout the United States and Canada, he has a voice for every administartion, including U.S. Presidents: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, both George Bushes and Barack Obama. In fact, infamous for his skewering of political figures, Little has charmed, amused, intrigued and gotten the best of politicians from here to his native Canada. He entertained at both of Reagan's presidential inaugurations, and President Reagan was reported to have said, “You do me better than I do.” A professed classic movie buff, he's particularly fond of doing Jimmy Stewart, Jack Lemmon, John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart, but Little has also latched on to baby boomer-friendly characters, such as Paul Lynde, Kermit the Frog, Andy Rooney and Dr. Phil, to name a few. Some of his favorite current impressions are of stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson, and Clint Eastwood. “They're easy to do,” he says. “They are larger than life.” In January 2010, Little became a United States citizen and was sworn in, with a suggestion from the judge to do it as John Wayne! His wife at the time, Marie, passed away that year. In her honor, Little created the Marie and Rich Little Foundation, which focuses on helping children, the homeless and animals in need. Little is still currently preparing to release his latest project, “Little by Little” a self-written, humorous show about his life, featuring over 30 characters. A book of the same title (…Celebrities I've Known and Been). Up until now, a little known fact about Little is his other talent as an artist. He started sketching when he was young, drawing his family and friends. To date, he has drawn more than 100 pictures of all the celebrities and politicians he imitates, and displays several of these life-like charcoal sketches in his shows. “How did I become an impersonator? Perhaps my mother was conceived by a Xerox machine!” says Little. So, how did a kid from Ottawa, Canada, growing up in the '50s become an impressionist? No one in our family had ever been in show business. No one ever had “show biz” yearnings. His father was a doctor. His mother was a housewife. So where did the desire to become an impressionist come from? Although, often asked this question, he can only offer an early love of the movies. "As a boy, I would go every weekend, sometimes staying to see the show twice. Just going to the movies and getting so involved in the story-telling and the characters made me want to be that person up on the screen, never dreaming that I could turn it into a career," remarks Little. The glory days of Hollywood and their icons, like no other, have remained as indelible images in our hearts and minds for decades. He, like many, idolized these giants of the screen and comedy, but was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet, work with, and get to know many of them along the way during my career. From the genius of Jack Benny, the unmatched humor of George Burns, the debonair, handsome Cary Grant, the unforgettable John Wayne, the king of late night hosts Johnny Carson, and the former actor-turned-President Ronald Reagan to President Obama and preparing for Trump ... just in case. In this gem of a new book are insights into the likes of many of these great people he has had the privilege and fortune to meet and imitate, to shine a new light on our beloved stars. "This is really not a biography," says Little, "but more of a humorous glimpse of the people I've impersonated and some of the funny stories that happened along the way."

LARRY CORYELLAs one of the pioneers of jazz-rock -- perhaps the pioneer in the ears of some -- Larry Coryell deserves a special place in the history books. He brought what amounted to a nearly alien sensibility to jazz electric guitar playing in the 1960s, a hard-edged, cutting tone, phrasing and note-bending that owed as much to blues, rock and even country as it did to earlier, smoother bop influences. Yet as a true eclectic, armed with a brilliant technique, he is comfortable in almost every style, covering almost every base from the most decibel-heavy, distortion-laden electric work to the most delicate, soothing, intricate lines on acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, a lot of his most crucial electric work from the '60s and '70s is missing on CD, tied up by the erratic reissue schemes of Vanguard, RCA and other labels, and by jazz-rock's myopically low level of status in the CD era (although that mindset is slowly changing). Born in Galveston, Texas on April 2, 1943 Coryell grew up in the Seattle, Washington area where his mother introduced him to the piano at the tender age of 4. He switched to guitar and played rock music while in his teens. He didn't consider himself good enough to pursue a music career and studied journalism at The University of Washington while simultaneously taking private guitar lessons. By 1965 he had relocated to New York City and began taking classical guitar lessons which would figure prominently in later stages of his career. Although citing Chet Atkins and Chuck Berry as early influences he also took cues from jazzmen such as John Coltrane and Wes Montgomery. He was also inspired by the popular music of the day by the Beatles, The Byrds and Bob Dylan and worked diligently to meld both rock and jazz stylings into his technique. This was reflected on his debut recording performance on drummer Chico Hamilton's album " The Dealer" where he sounded like chuck Berry at times with his almost distorted "fat" tone. Also in 1966 he formed a psychedelic band called The Free Spirits on which he also sang vocals, played the sitar and did most of the composing. Although conceptually the band's music conformed to the psychedelic formula with titles like "Bad News Cat" and" I'm Gonna Be Free" it foreshadowed jazz rock with more complex soloing by Coryell and Sax/flute player Jim Pepper. However, it wasn't until three years later after apprenticing on albums by Vibraphonist Gary Burton and flutist Herbie Mann and gigging with the likes of Jack Bruce and others that Coryell established his multifarious musical voice, releasing two solo albums which mixed jazz, classical and rock ingredients. In late 1969 he recorded "Spaces", the album for which he is most noted. It was a guitar blow-out which also included John McLaughlin who was also sitting on the fence between rock and jazz at the time and the cogitative result formed what many aficionados consider to be the embryo from which the fusion jazz movement of the 1970s emerged. It contained insane tempos and fiery guitar exchanges which were often beyond category not to mention some innovating acoustic bass work by Miroslav Vitous and power drumming by Billy Cobham both of whom were to make contributions to Jazz rock throughout the `70s. His career, however, began in era of guitar rock, where he was able to rise for a time with legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Eric Clapton. As this era came to a close, his musical expression took him on a diverse journey, and though he did not receive the level of commercial fame the aformentioned musicians had, he was still able to make his mark in music by way of the jazz & fusion world. His music continues to influence musicians and fans internationally and will continue to do so for a very long time.

From Sci-Fi to Science Fact: Imagining the Future- An Update by George A. Haloulakos In my book HIGH FLIGHT, a compendium of aviation case studies, my father, Dr. V.E. (Bill) Haloulakos, co-authored with me Chapter 7 (Imagination). This chapter discussed how the classic 1960s science fiction epics "Lost in Space" and "Planet of the Apes" reflected nuclear rocket propulsion protocols he worked on during that era. Now, we have a follow-up to this chapter and are re-releasing to the general public, two of his books that provided the basis for his contribution to HIGH FLIGHT. Here is our follow-up to Chapter 7 (Imagination) from HIGH FLIGHT Recently I watched Episode #6 ("Welcome Stranger") from the classic sci-fi TV series Lost in Space. This particular episode originally aired on October 20, 1965 with guest star Warren Oates as American astronaut James Hapgood who has come to enjoy the life of a roving space cowboy. Hapgood and his rocket ship "Travelin' Man" lifted off from Earth on June 18, 1982 aiming for a possible soft landing on Saturn as part of a fly-by survey mission. He missed his landing and has been wandering in space for 15+ years before his encounter with the Space Family Robinson in the late 1990s. This wonderful episode reflected the scientific protocols from the hey-day of the 1960s space age as well other projects not widely known to the general public at the time, notably the use of nuclear powered rockets for both interplanetary and interstellar space travel. While the public was largely enthralled with the USA versus USSR race for the first manned moon landing, other manned space flights were also being planned for Mars along with possible missions to Saturn and Jupiter. At the time, a soft landing on either Saturn or Jupiter was deemed possible as the gaseous composition of these two planets was not yet fully known. Annie Jacobsen's book about exotic high-tech military projects, Area 51, documents that such long-range missions were not only in the works but would require nuclear rockets to make them feasible/achievable. Moreover such expeditions were planned to occur in what would be the same timeline of the future as envisioned by Lost in Space. What is remarkable is that the saga of space cowboy Hapgood and his ship "Travelin' Man" not only reflected the scientific protocols of the 1960s (the same period in which Lost in Space aired on network TV) but actually provided the template of what future rocket ships would look like more than two decades later. Shown here are my hand drawn sketches of "Travelin' Man" and the McDonnell Douglas DC-X that was deployed in the early 1990s. Note the startling similarity between the two space craft – especially the Delta configuration of each - an affirmation of how science fiction can become science fact! We enjoyed watching these wonderful Lost in Space episodes not only for their inspiring adventures but later came to appreciate them much more with the passage of time as it became evident that such classic sci-fi offered a realistic if not achievable future based on science fact! Here is information on Dr. Haloulakos’ books that inspired this work: The math book is a reader-friendly presentation on the history of universal mathematical concepts and how they relate to our daily life. The propulsion book focuses on nuclear rockets and shows how our favorite sci-fi epics were / are a window into the future of science fact! Both books are available on a “print-to-order” basis exclusively through UC San Diego Bookstore. Since it is “print-to-order” this means you must prepay in advance of the printing (i.e., at the time you place your special order). The selling prices are $19.25 for the math book and $15 for the rocket propulsion book, plus shipping & handling. When ordering, be sure to include the title, author name and ISBN.

Bob Prichard- Somax Performance Institute The Importance Of Brain Oxygen- Since 1970, Somax Performance Institute has specialized in improving efficiency in athletes–rather than focusing on strength and endurance. The reason for this is that muscles are only 20% efficient; the other 80% is dissipated at heat. By contrast, a 1% improvement in efficiency will improve performance 1%. This is why Somax athletes make more progress in a few weeks than conventional programs taking several years. For instance, Somax has trained just 17 Olympic swimmers–but these swimmers have won a total of 43 Gold Medals and have set 11 World Records. Somax has trained hundreds of young competitive swimmers who have cut their times 3-18% while cutting their stroke count up to 50%. All of our training is based on frame-by-frame underwater stroke analysis and none on grinding out mega-yardage or lifting weights. In fact, we discourage weight-lifting in athletes because it creates microfibers (scar tissue) that restrict flexibility and eventually performance. Most of our work with elite and amateur athletes is undoing the damage caused by lifting weights and endurance training. Our professional golfers have won the US Open as a rookie, improved their putting from #113 to #1 on tour, quadrupled their tour income, and increased their longest drive from 295 to 400. Our amateur golfers have eliminated back, neck, hip and shoulder pain while cutting 5-11 strokes off their game. Baseball players have increased their long ball from 400 to 480 feet, increased their bases stolen from 14/15 to 32/33 and increased their top pitching velocity from 88 to 92 miles an hour. All these improvements took four weeks or less–not months and years. Our approach to improving performance is that sport is movement, and to move you need flexibility. Our 40 years of working with the best athletes in the world, in all sports, has shown us that the greatest difference between the best and those below them is in their flexibility. They are the best because they do not have to overcome the internal resistance of their body in order to compete and win. Once you have the flexibility required for your sport, then you need to learn to move efficiently. Efficient movement is often very different from conventional or ‘natural’ movement. The world’s best athletes are the best because many of their movements are counter-intuitive. Whether it is in an individual program, a camp or clinic, all of our training programs begin with measuring the five efficiency components in every sport: Range, Sequence, Speed, Separation and Alignment. We measure these components from frame-by-frame video of each athlete. We then perform the same measurements on video of historically great athletes so that each of our clients can see how they differ mathematically from the best. In this way, all of our analyses are objective and form the basis of all our programs. Next we measure the static ranges of our clients, as well as their strength in certain critical ranges. We also measure other physiological and neurological components that contribute to performance. Only after our clients have a complete picture of their present situation do we begin a program to improve their components. The result is an immediate and dramatic improvement in their performance. It is common, for instance, when we take our golfers to the driving range to try out their new swing, that they remark ‘I have never hit the ball that well in my life before’. We take the same care with all of our athletes, whether they are a professional making tens of millions of dollars every year, or a young swimmer with dreams of going to the Olympics, or a young soccer or baseball player with dreams of making it to the big leagues. If you would like to get off the treadmill of constantly lifting weights, running to improve performance, or practicing to improve your skills; if you would like to take years off your age; or if you would like to learn how to teach your kids to play or swim like the world’s best, please look at the programs we offer at www.somaxsports.com.

But young Evelyn King was an all-around performer who sang, danced... whatever it took to hold her audience of friends and family members. "You have to live life to know life," says vocalist-supreme Evelyn "Champagne" King. "That's the philosophy I apply to my day-to-day dealings and that's the philosophy I apply to making my music." Evelyn "Champagne" King is one of the few disco stars who successfully weathered the decline of disco to have more hits through the 1980's. Not only did she manage to survive as a star into the 1980's, she is still recording and touring frequently today. Evelyn was born into a musical family. She was born in The Bronx and her father, EricK King, performed often as a stand-in singer for various groups, occasionally at the legendary Apollo Theatre. Later, her family moved to Philadelphia, at 14-years-old Evelyn began performing professionally with a local band from South Philly. At age 15, Evelyn's big break came in storybook fashion. Legend has it she was working, subbing for her sister as a cleaning woman at Philadelphia's Sigma Studios, and singing “A Change Is Gonna Come. ”Well known producer, singer, songwriter, for many Artist in Philadelphia and member of the group “Spiritual Concept T. (Theodore) Life,” heard her singing. T. Life decided to sign her to his own production deal , and then introduced her to songwriters John Fitch & Ruben Cross when the magic happened. Then introduced to RCA Records Warren Schatz & Nancy Jeffries. Where she then was signed to a contract deal, and produced her first album Smooth Talk. The album included the disco dance smash hit “Shame.” She earned some notoriety as a teenager singing adult-themed songs in an adult-sounding voice, then Evelyn was on her way. The follow-up, “I Don't Know If It's Right” was a major mid-tempo R&B hit. Evelyn had only minor success through the end of the 1970's, but she began working with former B.T. Express member Kashif, who also had a partner Paul Laurence as they teamed up to work with her. The result in 1981 was “I'm in Love,” a #1 dance hit. She followed up with the Get Loose album in 1982 and another smash, the classic anthem “Love Come Down.” Kashif maintained an open, uncluttered production style that let Evelyn's strong, rich voice shined through. Evelyn continued to hit the charts through the rest of the early 1980's. In the late 1980's she left RCA for E.M.I. Records. The result was another major hit with “Flirt.” King's 1995 album The Girl Next Door is a celebration of this philosophy: a spirited, ear-opening 10-song platter that is all Evelyn. Produced by such luminaries as Leon Silver III and Gene Dozier, Nayan, Ten City, Marshall Jefferson, and her brother Johnny King, The Girl Next Door deftly showcases the versatile musical and vocal talent that has kept the artist among the most important female vocalists of the past decade.

Dr.John A. Gangemi-Chiropractic Physician John Gangemi is a Chiropractic Physician, Certified in Physical Medicine Modalities & Therapeutic Procedures, Certified Laser Safety Officer, Developer of the Release & Balance® Method and the “Return to Health Protocol”, provider of Foundational Laboratory Testing & Analysis, Health Professional and Speaker on Natural Health Solutions. In my early years I experienced a car accident that left me in a great deal of pain. I was referred to a chiropractic doctor who assisted me in recovering. Not only did I find relief and recovery from pain, I was so inspired by his ability to guide me through my healing process that I made a profound professional decision. I left my career as a CPA and enrolled in chiropractic college! Early on in my practice, I met so many people who experienced a wide variety of health issues and who were searching for solutions. My desire to assist these people inspired me in the development of the Release & Balance® Method. I often wondered why it was necessary to adjust the same regions of the spine over and over again; why an adjustment would not hold. In my explorations of other healing techniques, I realized that the underlying issue is a dysfunctional pattern of the nervous system due to excess stress. The nervous system actually becomes locked in a hyperactive cycle of tension called sympathetic dominant. I found that years of accumulated tension can be released by applying gentle pressure on key areas of the meninges and the spinal cranial network. This, combined with breathing techniques, body positioning and focused awareness, shifts my patients into better health. I gradated from Sherman Chiropractic College located in South Carolina in 1998 with summa cum laude honors. My first degree was in public accounting from St. John’s University in New York. I practiced as a CPA before I started chiropractic college. I was in private practice in a small but very busy town called Sag Harbor in the Hampton’s on Long Island, New York from 2000 to 2011. Many of my patients would travel from other states and receive the Release & Balance® Method and enjoy the beauty of the Hampton’s. My wife Mary and I relocated to Arizona where we enjoy time with our horses Vegas and Nitro, and the beautiful people, and desert landscape of Carefree, Cave Creek and Scottsdale. I am the owner of Health Solutions Center of Arizona where we utilize our “Return to Health Protocol”, the Release & Balance® Method & Life Vessel Resonance therapy.

But this innocent hobby takes on a sinister urgency when Zukowski learns of mutilated livestock, and sees the bodies of dead horses and cattle—whose exsanguination is inexplicable by any known human or animal means. Along an expanse of land stretching across the southern borders of Utah, Colorado, and Kansas, Zukowski discovers multiple bizarre incidences of mutilations, and suddenly realizes that they cluster around the 37th Parallel or “UFO Highway.” So begins an extraordinary and fascinating journey from El Paso and Rush, Colorado, to a mysterious space studies company and MUFON, from Roswell and Area 51 to the Pentagon and beyond; to underground secret military caverns and Indian sacred sites; beneath strange, unexplained lights in the sky and into corporations that obstruct and try to take over investigations. He is a Smithsonian Senior Astrophysicist and a lecturer at Harvard University. He is also the Interim Director of the Minor Planet Center. His research focuses on using wide-field surveys to search for moons of the giant planets, Kuiper Belt objects, and asteroids. He also studies the long-term dynamics of our solar system and other solar systems. Surprises in the Outer Solar System – The outer fringe of our solar system has yield one remarkable surprise after another, from the accurate prediction of Neptune’s location based on the deviations in the orbit of Uranus, to the discovery of the Pluto in 1930 and the detection the first (or perhaps second) Kuiper belt object in 1992, to New Horizon’s flyby of the Pluto-Charon system in 2015. We are still in an era of ongoing exploration of the outer solar. In this talk, I will review the history of this exploration, emphasizing how the discoveries of this era are both the product of the technology of their times and the human curiosity of the people who made them. And I will discuss what I think lies ahead, from Planet Nine to the exploration of the Oort Cloud.

Anneros ValensiTake a Nostalgic Trip with a Former TWA Stewardess Back in the 1960s when Trans World Airlines took people “up, up and away,” air travel was more glamorous than it is today. So too were the stewardesses who made travelers feel at home. Whether they lived through the era or just know about it from “Mad Men,” former TWA stewardess Anneros Valensi will transport your audience back to the time when stews’ standard uniforms included white gloves, high heels, stockings, miniskirts, scarves and hats and they prepared food on the plane and served first-class passengers on real china. It was also a time when stewardesses were weighed monthly, required to wear their hair a certain length, use the same color nail polish and fired when they became pregnant. Anneros can talk about what it was like to see the world, live with six stewardesses in one apartment, and encounter a scruffy looking celebrity. She’ll also share why she believes air travel then was more special than it is today. Erik Simonsen, US Combat Aircraft- Fly Off Competitions/ Winners, Losers and What Might Have Been
Since the first days of rivalry between the Wright Brothers and Glenn Curtiss, aircraft manufacturers have been vying for lucrative military aircraft contracts and competing for prized long-term production runs. As a result, many advanced and now legendary aircraft have been designed, built, and flown in every generation of aviation development. Focusing on the Cold War era, this book shows readers how crucial fly-off competitions have been to the development of America's military air arsenal. This book not only explains in detail how fly-off competitions are conducted, it shows the reader what both competing aircraft designs looked like during their trials, and then what the losing aircraft would have looked like in operational markings had it actually won. Described in vivid detail are the specific aircraft and how they fared, as well as the inside political maneuvering and subterfuge involved in often-controversial aircraft contract awards. Beginning with the Boeing B-47 Stratojet's decisive victory over rival Convair and Martin designs and ending with today's advanced unmanned aerial marvels, this book covers every era of Post-World War II aviation. Author Erik Simonsen uses the wonders of modern digital photography to create highly believable images of aviation's most tantalizing 'might have beens.' About the author Since the late 1960s Erik Simonsen has been photographing all types of military, commercial, business and sports aviation subjects. Honing the skills acquired from a graphics and fine arts background, his hobby turned into part-time professional work. Blending aviation photography with manipulated background colors, he developed early special effects techniques for eye-catching imagery and strived to push the art of photography whenever possible. Over the past 30 years Simonsen, has also has worked as a manager and director of communications in the aerospace industry and prior to that, capping an intense interest in astronomy, he served as a planetarium director and program manager in new-technology planetariums. Erik Simonsen is the author of Spy Planes and This is Stealth, and his photography has been featured in corporate advertising and various aerospace-related magazines including, Aerospace America, Air Force Magazine, Aviation Week & Space Technology and Flight international. A member of the International Society for Aviation Photography (ISAP), American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), Air Force Association (AFA), U.S. Naval Institute (USNI), The Planetary Society, and Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Dr. William J.. Cooke -NASA Meteoroid Environment Office
Meteoroid Environment Office NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office (MEO) is the NASA organization responsible for meteoroid environments pertaining to spacecraft engineering and operations. The MEO leads NASA technical work on the meteoroid environment and coordinates the existing meteoroid expertise at NASA centers. The MEO was established by the NASA Headquarters Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (OSMA) in October of 2004 as the NASA organization responsible for meteoroid environments pertaining to spacecraft engineering and operations. Its creation is the result of various NASA panel recommendations and recent Leonid meteor storms. The MEO is located at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Organizationally, it is part of the Natural Environments Branch (EV44) – a component of the Space & Vehicle Systems Department of the Engineering Directorate. The MEO is the first official NASA meteoroid program since the Johnson Space Center meteoroid group was disbanded in 1970. The objective of the MEO is to understand the flux and the associated risk of meteoroids impacting spacecraft traveling in and beyond Earth’s orbit. Meteoroids impacting spacecraft are a quantifiable risk as they can puncture pressurized volumes (i.e. space station modules, propellant tanks) or destroy components (i.e. engines, electronics). While meteoroids have never been definitively proven to have destroyed a spacecraft, there have been several in-flight anomalies attributed to meteoroid impacts including loss of the Olympus satellite to control system failure induced by a Perseid shower meteor impact. Understanding the meteoroid environment can help spacecraft designers to better protect critical components on spacecraft or avoid critical operations such as extravehicular activities during periods of higher flux such as meteor showers. The primary functions of the MEO are to: Lead NASA technical work on the meteoroid environment; coordinate the existing meteoroid expertise at NASA centers. Provide design, operational determination, and review assistance for NASA Programs/projects with respect to risk mitigation. Develop, maintain, and distribute a more accurate sporadic meteoroid model. Provide meteor shower forecasts to NASA spacecraft operators. Bio-Bill Cooke The lead of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, Dr. Bill Cooke specializes in the meteoroid environment and its effects on space vehicles of all sorts. While a graduate student at the University of Florida, he worked on instruments flying onboard balloons, the Space Shuttle, Giotto (European mission to Halley's Comet), and the Long Duration Exposure Facility. After obtaining his PhD, he came to work at Marshall Space Flight Center as a member of the Space Environments Team. When not occupied with meteor observations and shower forecasts, he dabbles as a free- lance author for magazines and is a mentor for the Team America Rocketry Challenge and NASA's Student Launch Initiative rocketry programs.Find out more

    Congressman John Culberson-7th Congressional District-Texas
The Europa Mission To Jupiter- As a fiscally conservative “Jeffersonian Republican,” Congressman John Culberson is committed to Thomas Jefferson’s vision of limited government, individual liberty, and states’ rights. Simply put, John Culberson believes in “Letting Texans Run Texas.” John Culberson was elected in 2000 to represent the 7th District, a seat formerly held by President George H. W. Bush and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Archer. In Congress, John’s priorities include restoring the 10th amendment; strengthening the economy by cutting taxes, creating jobs, and balancing the budget, securing the border, advancing medical and scientific research, and improving Houston transportation. John is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for funding the federal government. His position on the committee allows him to rein in federal spending and promote less federal regulation and more local control. His subcommittee assignments include the Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Subcommittee, Homeland Security Subcommittee, and the Transportation Housing & Urban Development Subcommittee. In November 2014, John was selected to lead the CJS Subcommittee, which oversees the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation, and other related agencies. As Chairman, John is committed to ensuring that the Attorney General respects the rule of law and providing America’s law enforcement officers with the resources they need to protect our lives and property. As a long-time space-enthusiast and NASA advocate, one of John’s top priorities is to see NASA return to its core mission of scientific research so that America remains the world-leader in space exploration. He is also a zealous advocate for increasing national investment in medical and scientific research, and recognizes that breakthroughs in these areas are vital to the economic and technological challenges we face in the 21st century. He believes the lawlessness on the border requires immediate action, and in close cooperation with the Texas Border Sheriffs’ Coalition, he continues to secure federal funding for the sheriffs to enforce existing law and provide the necessary support for our Border Patrol agents. John also believes in cost-effective transportation projects that reduce congestion on Houston’s busy freeways. His signature transportation project, the Katy Freeway expansion, is the nation’s first combination Interstate highway with locally-owned toll lanes. The project was finished years ahead of schedule, and according to TxDOT has cut travel time in half. A life-long Texan, John Culberson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1981. After college, he worked for his father’s political consulting and advertising agency before earning a Juris Doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston. Before his election to Congress, he practiced law as a civil defense attorney with the Houston firm Lorance and Thompson. The Truth About Chronic Pain Treatments- My book grew out of my own experience with chronic pain and my work as a health care provider working with pain patients. I began running to get into better shape in 1977 when I was twenty-five years old. As a result, I developed severe, disabling back pain. The doctors I consulted were unable to find the cause of my pain. They prescribed drugs that didn’t help and were potentially dangerous. These drugs included narcotics, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants. After enduring agonizing pain for more than three years, a friend suggested that I read a book about the mind/body connection. The author of the book, when faced with a progressive, degenerative joint disease and presented with a hopeless prognosis, found his own way to healing through “laughter therapy,” That prompted me to start watching comedies on TV instead of more depressing programs. Through the book I also learned about biofeedback. I consulted a biofeedback therapist who pointed out that worrying about pain only made it worse and that I could use my mind to reduce my pain instead by learning to relax. After the initial session, my pain was significantly reduced, probably because I knew that I could have some control over my pain instead of fearing it. The Truth About Chronic Pain Treatments: The Best and Worst Strategies for Becoming Pain Free, is intended to educate patients, health care providers, and patients about how to end the epidemic of chronic pain that is ruining the lives of 116 million Americans and more than a billion people around the world. The book documents how conventional treatments are often the most dangerous and least effective and how alternative treatments can be used to get to the root of the problem and promote real healing.Find out more

Nick Janicki True Rest/ Float Spa The Science Of Feeling Great
WHAT IS FLOATING? Float therapy is a powerful tool for wellness, relaxation, pain relief and better sleep. As with any therapy, with regular use its benefits are enhanced. Stress, tension and pain have formed over time and will take some time to experience the greatest relief—luckily, floating is a relaxing, fun,and effortless way to do so! Float therapy offers relief and benefits which are cumulative—they build on themselves with each subsequent session. We like to say “the more you float, the better it gets”, as floats themselves deepen beyond the first session. Though flotation is an “effortless” therapy, the body and mind actually learn how to relax into the float with each session. For these reasons, we encourage guests to return to floating more than once, and to receive sessions on a regular basis to maintain their benefits.Find out more

Rowland White-Author, Into The Black- The Extraordinary Untold Story of the First Flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia and the Astronauts Who Flew Her
A spellbinding account of the first flight of the Space Shuttle, one of the great technological developments of the late 20th century. On April 12, 1981 a revolutionary new spacecraft blasted off from Florida on her maiden flight. NASA's Space Shuttle Columbia was the most advanced flying machine ever built -- the high watermark of post-war aviation development. A direct descendant of the record-breaking X-planes the likes of which Chuck Yeager had tested in the skies over the Mojave Desert, Columbia was a winged rocket plane, the size of an airliner, capable of flying to space and back before being made ready to fly again. She was the world's first real spaceship. On board were men with the Right Stuff. The Shuttle's Commander, moonwalker John Young, was already a veteran of five spaceflights. Alongside him, Pilot Bob Crippen was making his first, but Crip, taken in by the space agency after the cancellation of a top secret military space station programme in 1969, had worked on the Shuttle's development for a decade. Never before had a crew been so well prepared for their mission. Yet less than an hour after Young and Crippen's spectacular departure from the Cape it was clear that all was not well. Tiles designed to protect Columbia from the blowtorch burn of re-entry were missing from the heatshield. If the damage to their ship was too great the astronauts would be unable to return safely to earth. But neither they nor mission control possessed any way of knowing. Instead, NASA turned to the National Reconnaissance Office, a spy agency hidden deep inside the Pentagon whose very existence was classified. To help, the NRO would attempt something that had never been done before. Success would require skill, pinpoint timing and luck. Drawing on brand new interviews with astronauts and engineers, archive material and newly declassified documents, Rowland White, bestselling author of Vulcan 607, has pieced together the dramatic untold story of the mission for the first time. Into the Black is a thrilling race against time; a gripping high stakes cold-war story, and a celebration of a beyond the state-of-the-art machine that, hailed as one of the seven new wonders of the world, rekindled our passion for spaceflight.Find out more

    Rod Pyle- NASA/ JPL/CALTECH
Apollo 10 and Mysterious ‘Space Music’ Newly declassified audiotapes have revealed that Apollo 10 astronauts heard “outer-space” music as their spacecraft flew around the far side of the moon in 1969. During the mission, the astronauts were on the part of the moon furthest from Earth, where no one from NASA could see or hear them. The astronauts’ conversation was kept under wraps for more than four decades. Invite NASA expert Rod Pyle to discuss the ‘weird music’ and why, 40 years later, we’re still intrigued. Toni Tennille
Born, Cathryn Antoinette "Toni" Tennille is best known for her '70s and '80s chart-topping hits with the pop duo Captain & Tennille and the hit series by the same name. A classically trained pianist and a prolific song writer, Toni has also released numerous solo albums celebrating the romantic music of big band and American standards. Today Toni can be found working with her award-winning Australian shepherd dogs in Lake Mary, Florida, and continuing to play the music she loves. She has just completed a memoir of her life and career (Toni Tennille: A Memoir / April 2016). Since bursting onto the scene in the mid 70s, the pop duo Captain and Tennille have long defined the sparkling, optimistic idea of everlasting love, both in their music and through their image as a happy and, seemingly, unbreakable couple. They were an irresistible pair to millions of fans all over the world, further underscored by the rousing “yes, we can!” gospel of their biggest hit, “Love Will Keep Us Together.” But underneath the image was an entirely different story that the fans never saw: a woman who fought a lonely struggle against the controlling and often bizarre behavior of her emotionally inaccessible husband. Toni Tennille: A Memoir is a visceral account of Toni Tennille’s life from her childhood in the segregated South to her thrilling rise to fame in the world of pop music to where she is now: no longer one-half of a famed couple, but a stronger woman for all she has experienced—both the good and the bad. Toni hopes that her story will help anyone who feels trapped in a toxic relationship realize that it is never too late to break away from it.Find out more

    Howard Bloom
The God Problem- How A Godless Cosmos Creates There's a secret hidden in a mathematical nugget called Peano's Axioms. Is Peano 's mystery the key to the cosmos? The God Problem tackles the question of how a godless cosmos creates; of how a universe without a bearded and bathrobed god in the sky pulls off acts of genesis. And it pursues the riddles behind five mildly flabbergasting heresies: a does not equal a one plus one does not equal two entropy is wrong randomness is not as random as you think and information theory is way off base. Says The God Problem: God's war crimes, Aristotle's sneaky tricks, Galileo's creationism, Newton's intelligent design, entropy's errors, Einstein's pajamas, John Conway's game of loneliness, Information Theory's blind spot, Stephen Wolfram's New Kind Of Science, and six monkeys at six typewriters getting it wrong. What do these have to do with the birth of a universe and with your need for meaning? Everything, as you're about to see. In The God Problem you'll take a scientific expedition into the secret heart of a cosmos you've never seen. An electrifyingly inventive cosmos. An obsessive-compulsive cosmos. A driven, ambitious cosmos. A cosmos of colossal shocks. A cosmos of screaming, stunning surprise. A cosmos that's the biggest invention engine--the biggest breakthrough maker, the biggest creator--of all time. One critic has suggested that The God Problem may be a great book on a par with Darwin's Origin of the Species and Newton's Principia Mathematica. One Nobel Prize winner and two Macarthur Genius Award winners have said The God Problem is "spectacular" and "great." Early readers like Amazon.com's number one non-fiction reviewer have said The God Problem is "the next paradigm," "a game-changer," and a book that will "change your life." And Heinz Insu Fenkl of SUNY's Interstitial Studies Institute says, "The God Problem is the next paradigm. It doesn't take you down the proverbial 'rabbit hole' -- it will take you to a place from which you will never re-emerge, a brand new universe in the same skin as the one you now unknowingly inhabit." Will The God Problem utterly change the way you see everything around you and everything inside you? That's my intention. But only one person can answer that question: you. "Enthralling. Astonishing. Written with the panache of the Great Blondin turning somersaults on the rope above Niagara. Profound, extraordinarily eclectic, and crazy. The most exciting cliffhanger of a book I can remember reading." James Burke, creator and host of seven BBC TV series, including Connections "I have just come out from the giddy ride through things of the mind and mathematics that is The God Problem. Bloom takes us on a magic carpet ride of ideas about: well, about everything. And it turns out that everything we knew about everything is probably wrong. The God Problem is an intellectual cave of wonders made more wonderful by the tales of the lives of the people behind the ideas. Don't start this book late at night, for it will banish sleep." Robin Fox, Rutgers University, author of The Tribal Imagination: Civilization and the Savage Mind, former director of research for the H. F. Guggenheim Foundation "If Howard Bloom is only 10 percent right, we'll have to drastically revise our notions of the universe. There's no mysticism in The God Problem-- no God, no religion, no incommunicable spiritual insights -- just the contagious joy of a great mind set loose on the biggest intellectual puzzles humans have ever faced. Whether you're a scientist or a hyper-curious layperson, Bloom's argument will rock your world." Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed, National Magazine Award Winner "Bloody hell... What a truly extraordinary book. I'm gob-smacked." Francis Pryor, President of the Council for British Archaeology, author, Britain BC. "Is The God Problem a great book like Darwin's The Origin Of Species, Lyell's Principles Of Geology, or Newton's Principia Mathematica?" Dan Schneider, the man Roger Ebert calls the "ideal critic." "Terrific." Dudley Herschbach, Harvard U, 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. "Deep, provocative, spectacularly well written...great." Robert Sapolsky, Stanford U, MacArthur Genius Award winner. "Strong...like a STEAM ROLLER...impressive...great." Richard Foreman, founder Ontological-Hysteric Theater, MacArthur Genius Award-Winner. "Mind-bending." Charles Siebert, contributing writer, New York Times Sunday Magazine "Ebullient, enthralling." Alex Wright, Director of User Experience and Product Research, New York Times, author, Glut: Mastering Information Through the Ages. "Utterly extraordinary." Matt Thorne, winner of the Encore Award, longlisted for the Booker Prize. "Thrilling." Hector Zenil, Institut d'Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Technique. "The ultimate scientific detective story." Mark Lamonica, winner of the Southern California Booksellers Association Nonfiction Award. "A 'page-turner.'" Walter Collier Putnam, 30-year Associated Press veteran. "Great literature." Edgar Mitchell, sixth astronaut on the moon. "Incandescent...shakes out like shining from shook foil and oozes to a greatness," George Gilder, author, Wealth and Poverty, winner of the White House Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence. "Profound and extraordinary." Yuri Ozhigov, Chair of Quantum Informatics, Moscow State University. "Entertaining, suspenseful, rigorous, and thoroughly mathematical." Martin Bojowald, loop quantum cosmologist, Penn State Physics Department, author of Once Before Time: A Whole Story of the Universe. "Absolutely sparkling with ideas." David Christian, founder, International Big History Association.. "An enjoyment shot through with things you never knew." Allen Johnson, Ex-chair, dpt of anthropology, UCLA. "Infectious." Mark Lupisella, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. "The central illuminations glow." Robert B. Cialdini, Arizona State University, Author of Influence, the most cited social psychologist in the world today. "Exalted! Glorious! Astounding." Nancy Weber, author of 22 books including The Life Swap. "An entire paradigm shift!" David Tamm, author, Tsiolkovsky's Imperative. "A paradigm/mind-set/game changer." Robert Steele, #1 Amazon.com reviewer for non-fiction. "The next paradigm. It will take you to a place from which you will never re-emerge, a brand new universe in the same skin as the one you now unknowingly inhabit." Heinz Insu Fenkl, director, The Interstitial Studies Institute, SUNY. "The God Problem will change your life." David Swindle, Associate Editor, PJ Media. Joanna Blythman
Swallow This Serving Up The Food Industry's Darkest Secrets From the author of What to Eat and Shopped, a revelatory investigation into what really goes into the food we eat. Even with 25 years experience as a journalist and investigator of the food chain, Joanna Blythman still felt she had unanswered questions about the food we consume every day. How ‘natural’ is the process for making a ‘natural’ flavouring? What, exactly, is modified starch, and why is it an ingredient in so many foods? What is done to pitta bread to make it stay ‘fresh’ for six months? And why, when you eat a supermarket salad, does the taste linger in your mouth for several hours after? Swallow This is a fascinating exploration of the food processing industry and its products – not just the more obvious ready meals, chicken nuggets and tinned soups, but the less overtly industrial – washed salads, smoothies, yoghurts, cereal bars, bread, fruit juice, prepared vegetables. Forget illegal, horse-meat-scandal processes, every step in the production of these is legal, but practised by a strange and inaccessible industry, with methods a world-away from our idea of domestic food preparation, and obscured by technical speak, unintelligible ingredients manuals, and clever labelling practices. Determined to get to the bottom of the impact the industry has on our food, Joanna Blythman has gained unprecedented access to factories, suppliers and industry insiders, to give an utterly eye-opening account of what we’re really swallowing.Find out more

Eric Young NASA SOFIA/ 747 Airborne Observatory
SOFIA Overview/Mission Overview SOFIA is the largest airborne observatory in the world, capable of making observations that are impossible for even the largest and highest ground based telescopes. During its planned 20 year lifetime, SOFIA also will inspire the development of new scientific instrumentation and foster the education of young scientists and engineers. SOFIA is an 80/20 partnership of NASA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), consisting of an extensively modified Boeing 747SP aircraft carrying a reflecting telescope with an effective diameter of 2.5 meters (100 inches). The observatory is based at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California. NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, manages SOFIA's science and mission operations in cooperation with the Universities Space Research Association (USRA; Columbia, Md.) and the German SOFIA Institute (DSI; University of Stuttgart). The Flying Observatory The SOFIA observatory is a Boeing 747SP with a distinguished history. It was originally acquired by Pan American World Airways and was delivered in May 1977. The "SP" designates that this is a special performance, short body version of the 747, designed for longer flights than the Boeing 747 Classics (747 100, 200, and 300 series jetliners). Although Pan Am typically named its aircraft after famous clipper ships, they gave this aircraft a special name the Clipper Lindbergh in honor of the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. Lindbergh's widow, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, personally christened the aircraft and officially placed it into service on May 6, 1977 the 50th anniversary of his history making first solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927Find out more

The General And The Genius Groves and Oppenheimer-The Unlikely Partnership That Built The Atom BombTwo ambitious men. One historic mission. With a blinding flash in the New Mexico desert in the summer of 1945, the world was changed forever. The bomb that ushered in the atomic age was the product of one of history's most improbable partnerships. The General and the Genius reveals how two extraordinary men pulled off the greatest scientific feat of the twentieth century. Leslie Richard Groves of the Army Corps of Engineers, who had made his name by building the Pentagon in record time and under budget, was made overlord of the impossibly vast scientific enterprise known as the Manhattan Project. His mission: to beat the Nazis to the atomic bomb. So he turned to the nation's preeminent theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer...the chain-smoking, martini-quaffing son of wealthy Jewish immigrants, whose background was riddled with communist associations...Groves's opposite in nearly every respect. In their three-year collaboration, the iron-willed general and the visionary scientist led a brilliant team in a secret mountaintop lab and built the fearsome weapons that ended the war but introduced the human race to unimaginable new terrors. And at the heart of this most momentous work of World War II is the story of two extraordinary men...the general and the genius.Find out more

    Stephen L. Petranek
How We'll Live On Mars Award-winning journalist Stephen Petranek says humans will live on Mars by 2027. Now he makes the case that living on Mars is not just plausible, but inevitable. It sounds like science fiction, but Stephen Petranek considers it fact: Within twenty years, humans will live on Mars. We ll need to. In this sweeping, provocative book that mixes business, science, and human reporting, Petranek makes the case that living on Mars is an essential back-up plan for humanity and explains in fascinating detail just how it will happen. The race is on. Private companies, driven by iconoclastic entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Paul Allen, and Sir Richard Branson; Dutch reality show and space mission Mars One; NASA; and the Chinese government are among the many groups competing to plant the first stake on Mars and open the door for human habitation. Why go to Mars? Life on Mars has potential life-saving possibilities for everyone on earth. Depleting water supplies, overwhelming climate change, and a host of other disasters...from terrorist attacks to meteor strikes...all loom large. We must become a space-faring species to survive. We have the technology not only to get humans to Mars, but to convert Mars into another habitable planet. It will likely take 300 years to TERRAFORM Mars, as the jargon goes, but we can turn it into a veritable second Garden of Eden. And we can live there, in specially designed habitations, within the next twenty years. In this exciting chronicle, Petranek introduces the circus of lively characters all engaged in a dramatic effort to be the first to settle the Red Planet. How We ll Live on Mars brings firsthand reporting, interviews with key participants, and extensive research to bear on the question of how we can expect to see life on Mars within the next twenty years.Find out more

You've always known it was just a matter of time before the world demanded some kind of flying machine which would replace the automobile. Of course, this machine would have to be capable of VTOL, be easy to maintain, cost effective and reliable. Well, we at Moller International believe we have come up with the solution. That solution is the volantor; a safe, fast, affordable, VTOL aircraft. No matter how you look at it the automobile is only an interim step on our evolutionary path to independence from gravity. US SPACE & ROCKET CENTER/ SPACE CAMP-When Dr. Wernher von Braun arrived in 1950 in the tiny Alabama town which called itself the "Watercress Capital of the World," Huntsville boasted a population of 15,000. Today, it is forged forever in history as the place where America's space program was born; where the rockets were developed that put the first U.S. satellite into orbit and sent men to the moon; where the power for today's space shuttle was developed; where the modules for the International Space Station were designed and built; and where America s next great ship the Space Launch System is being designed. During the final months that von Braun and his team of scientists were refining the giant rocket that sent Apollo astronauts to the moon, he was also preparing to launch another important project: a permanent exhibit to showcase the hardware of the space program. Von Braun was director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville when he approached the Alabama Legislature with the idea of creating a museum jointly with the U.S. Army Missile Command and NASA. After Alabama lawmakers and its citizens voted in 1968 to finance construction, the U.S. Army donated land on its Redstone Arsenal, which is also the site of the sprawling NASA center, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center was born. Since opening its doors in 1970, nearly 16 million people have toured the Center. The vast majority of those visitors have been from out of state or from foreign nations. Many of the more than 600,000 annual visitors are school students on field trips to their future. Dozens of interactive exhibits encourage visitor participation, prompting one official to note: "Here, everyone can be an astronaut for the day!" Home to Space Camp, Aviation Challenge Camp, and Robotics Camp the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) is the most comprehensive U.S. manned spaceflight hardware museum in the world. Its large rocket and space hardware collection is valued in the tens of millions of dollars. From America s first satellite, Explorer I, to next generation space vehicles like Sierra Nevada s Dream Chaser, the museum showcases the past, present and future of human spaceflight. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center serves as the Official NASA Visitor Center for Marshall Space Flight Center and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.Find out more

    Tia Mc Connell
Post Viet Nam War- Baby Lifts- The Search For My Father- I was born in DaNang, Vietnam in the spring or early 1973, I was taken by military helicopter to Saigon by an American nurse and placed in one of 4 orphanages ran by Rosemary Taylor. It was there I spent my first 4-6 months of life, with no documentation dates are a little sketchy. I was a sophomore in high school working on a genetics unit, when I realized I needed to find my father or mother, it was a promise I made to myself. It was a very long road to get to my father, longer than many realize. Please don't get me wrong, I have wonderful parents who gave me a chance at life. They are the reason I found him. Never did they tell me looking for answers was ungrateful they have only supported me, loved me, held me when I cried and picked me up during the lowest moments of my life. Back to how I found him, I was in Vietnam in 2010 for the 35th anniversary of the BabyLifts, another adoptee had used DNA to find her mom and started a project, Operation Reunite. It was in Vietnam I received my DNA test kit, I sent it in in April of 2010 but never ready to actually see the results so I never paid for it. My thought process was this, if my father had been alive had a family, could I actually reach out to him. I don't believe that it would be my right to disturb what he had built. In August of 2011 I finally paid for the test results. Not much there a lot of 4th-5th cousins but nothing remarkable, I mean a 4th cousin we shared 16 sets of great grand parents. It was in November of 2011 that a new DNA match appeared a third cousin, I thought at least 8 sets of great grand parents would be easier to break down than 16 or 32. I emailed him, turns out he lived in Houston with his wife, more amazing I was leaving for Houston in 3 days. I arranged to meet him, my first blood relative, I was a little in shock. Turned out his wife worked in Houston's Geneology Library and had compiled a list of last names associated with him. Mind you a very long list, but it was worth researching. I spent the remainder of November and all of December going through these names. The one thing I did know was based on my DNA matches, 85-90% of my matches were from the south. I hit wall after wall, and almost gave up. In January of 2012 I took a week break from searching, I was literally emotionally and physically exhausted, I wanted him to be alive, I had and still have so many questions. It was around January 18th I realized that the odds he was alive were fading, I had to use good common sense, he was dead. I began an exhaustive search of the Vietnam Wall site, but with so many names and a lot of them common, it was hard. I had to find an easier way, I realized one day looking at the site I could enter information like KIA year, that would help. Then month would come next. I knew from my nursing school exactly how figure exactly premature I could have been and survived over there and the date given to me of my birth and letters from the nurse who found me to calculate. I could have been born at 7 1/2 months and survived the odds were low but it could have happened. If I was born somewhere between May and July of 1973 my father had to have been alive at least through the end of November 1972. So I started searching the site all over again, this time putting in KIA from 11/1972 through April of 1975. I knew for sure where I was born, DaNang so if the person killed served south of there it couldn't be it, I also knew most of my DNA matches were from the south so anyone from north of Oklahoma was ruled out. Each day was hours looking and sorting. Rucker is at the end of the alphabet. I knew the minute I saw his name, where he was from and where he was stationed and killed. The Wall website has an area for people to leave comments, some one posted knowing my dad and remembering the party they had in November of 1972. I just knew. I used Google to research him further, I found the picture of him holding the puppy, and it was like looking in a mirror. I had found my dad. I researched his parents, which was quite easy, and found his mom's phone number. This discovery came on January 25th 2012 at around 1130 in the morning. I emailed the picture to my parents and husband, there was no denying it. I had found my grandmothers phone number and held it all day. Around 7 that night after going round and round with myself as to why I shouldn't call and if I did what would I say, my husband grabbed the number and dialed, I had no choice now. My grandma answered the phone, and I introduced myself and told her I was not selling anything. She said good because she wasn't buying anything. I told her I had good reason to believe her son John was my father. I expected cursing and her to hang up she didn't, but there was a long awkward pause. She said to me "I always had a feeling that he had a child" Link:Find out more

    Dwight Jon Zimmerman
AREA 51- The Graphic History Of America's Secret Military Installation. The actual history of the United States' worst-kept military secret revealed in graphic format. Though nearly everyone has heard of it, almost no one has known anything about it . . . until now. Located in the remote Nevada desert near the dry bed of Groom Lake, Area 51 is the most famous military installation in the world that doesn't "officially" exist. In Area 51, author Dwight Zimmerman and artist Greg Scott unravel the real history - minus the aliens and sci-fi movie plots - revealing in detail how for more than 60 years, the CIA, the U.S. Air Force, and aerospace company Lockheed Martin have all used Area 51 as a staging ground for test flights of experimental or highly classified aircrafts. Scott illustrates the Archangel-12 as well as follow-on aircrafts, such as the U-2, the SR-71 Blackbird, and the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, while author Zimmerman tells the history of how they sprang from the research and development conducted at Area 51. This first-of-its-kind graphic history strips away the fantastical aspects of this mysterious location and establishes the actual, significant history made there. "Zimmerman packs a ton of information into a book that helps explain and understand one of America's worst kept secrets about one of it most vital technological national assets. Area 51, while "Black" for years, has been the focus of crazy legends and conspiracies and Zimmerman helps demystify the legends and put things in perspective in a unique, highly readable format. A "must read" for those interested in Cold War history and future aerospace technology development." - Richard L. Weaver, Colonel, USAF, (ret) Special Agent, Air Force Office of Special Investigations (Retired) Former Director of Security and Special Program Oversight, USAF and Author, The Roswell Report: Fact Versus Fiction in the New Mexico Desert "Zimmerman's rendition of the Area 51 story is a walk down memory lane for this former USAF insider. It superbly captures the history, mystery and folklore of one of America's best-kept secrets. Riveting, accurate, and thought-provoking for anyone with - and even those without - a Need-to-Know!" - Michael Angley Colonel, USAF (ret) Special Agent, OSI (ret) "This is NOT just a book for young people--this is a serious, information-packed illustrated book. Amazing and entertaining; it debunks lots of rumors and misinformation about Area 51. I am impressed with all that it delivers. Not "just a comic book," it resonates with adults as much as it should with younger readers. A great read!" - W. H. McDonald Jr. Founder of The American Author Association & The Military Writers Society of America Author and documentary film consultant "Dwight Zimmerman has done an outstanding job tracking the history of one of the most intriguing enigmas of our age--the ultra secret and ever mysterious "Area 51." The graphic novel is absolutely perfect for a serious disposition on a topic that has generated so much controversy. The drawings truly help the reader visualize the importance of Area 51 and go a long way toward helping debunk the many myths surrounding this fascinating place. Conspiracy theorists will not likely embrace this book, but anyone who wants a serious, scholarly, accurate picture--an entire set of pictures, in fact!--of what Area 51 has been about will be very happy to have this material in hand. Dwight's writing is crisp, fast-paced, entertaining and-above all-accurate. The story of Area 51 finally has a complete and factual telling. Amazingly, the truth is, indeed, stranger (and more tantalizing) than the fiction that has previously surrounded this out-of-bounds desert enclave." - Phil Keith, award winning author of "Blackhorse Riders" and "Fire Base Illingworth" (and the soon-to-be-released "Stay the Rising Sun," a novel of the Battle of the Coral Sea) Find out more
